The new Linear Accelerator (LINAC) equipment at The Alfred Hospital will help transform the quality of treatment and care that cancer patients can receive at the hospital.
To install this state-of-the-art technology, the existing services and structure needed to be removed with new services put in place to meet the requirements of the equipment.
The works included removal of existing ground floor slab to ensure adequate structural capacity was available for the base plate of the new unit & to house the underground reticulation of services. The works also included an aesthetic upgrade to the space, encompassing the installation of new joinery to the control area for the operating staff, new custom vinyl, repainting of the space and new lighting.
It was also important that the space was not only functional, but therapeutic for patients. Custom printed floral ceiling tiles and wall graphics were included, along with custom perimeter and walk-way lighting to remove the clinical feel of the space, creating a more inviting and comfortable treatment room.
