“Post pandemic there has been a remarkable transition in the way we do things. Sustainability. Renewability. Future. Green Star. WELLS.
We hear these words every day. What we don’t realise is that often they can only be achieved by doing more than just the legal requirements. In short, it’s about real Corporate Responsibility.
The construction industry has the power to build communities, maintain life-long careers, return to nature, and help those in need. The Community Leave days that Renascent offer is one of the best initiatives that enable us to contribute to this.
The construction industry is one of the biggest consumers of natural resources, and its usage is a clear explanation as to why materials continue to become increasingly expensive!
Recognising what impact our industry has, but also its potential for positive change, is why I contacted TreeProject and volunteered to help revegetate our Victorian grasslands.
TreeProject gets urban and rural communities working together to put trees back on the land. Their network of volunteers grows indigenous seedlings for rural landholders and Landcare groups who need help with revegetation.
The day began with a 9am start, with the fantastic group of volunteers being inducted by a lovely supervisor.
With the sun out, we were involved in a range of tasks throughout the day, that were simple but laborious. There were many other corporate volunteers from a range of industries including software, engineering, design, and construction, and we were all set towards the same goal; to make positive change.
After a fantastic day of work, accompanied by a glass of Yarra Valley wine overlooking vineyards, I felt rejuvenated, motivated, and eager to claim the Green Thumb Trophy.
I look forward to advocating days like these with my colleagues, not only in light of team building but to reinforce our role as Responsible Builders.”
As part of our commitment to CSR, at Renascent all our employees are given two days a year to help their communities or volunteer with a charity or organisation of their choice. From making meals for those in crisis to abseiling down skyscrapers, we’re proud to give our people an opportunity to give back.
